Welcome to the free preview of the course "Phonics: Decoding and Encoding" from Renewal of Literacy® School. This course shows teachers how to teach and assess phonics/decoding and encoding skills.

Phonics is one of four reading methodologies Waldorf teachers should incorporate into their lessons. The other three are whole language, look-say, and spelling method.

This course is a support course for the book The Roadmap to Literacy (both editions).



It can also serve as a stand-alone course for teachers and schools that wish to learn more about phonics. It charts a path through teaching and assessing decoding and encoding skills so that teachers can get up to 95% of students reading and spelling at grade level.

This course is recommended for the following:

1. Waldorf teachers grades 1-3 (emphasis: decoding)
2. Waldorf teachers grades 4-6/8 (emphasis encoding)
3. Remedial teachers
4. Any teacher or homeschool parent who needs to learn about phonics
